Specialty Drying in Orinda home

This is a photo of what we call specialty drying in an Orinda, Ca home. The water supply line to the dishwasher broke and caused water damage to the hardwood floors which required special equipment called a desiccant dehumidifier tented to the floor using lay flat ducting connected to a plastic floor containment in order to completely dry the affected area. Soon this beautiful hardwood floor will look "Like it never even happened."

Hardwood Floor Rescue Mat

At SERVPRO of Walnut Creek/Clayton we try are absolute hardest to "restore" instead of "replace". When there is water damage to hardwood floors one method of drying we will use is our Rescue Mats.

The Rescue Mat System enables our technicians to dry hardwood floors fast. Utilizing the power of a high-pressure blower, the Rescue Mat vacuums water vapor right through the surface of the floor.

Visible Mold

Not all mold is visible until you start searching.

The mold remediation process depends on the amount of mold growth and the types of surfaces on which the mold appears. Here at SERVPRO of Walnut Creek/Clayton we use antifungal and antimicrobial treatments to eliminate mold colonies and to help prevent new colonies from forming. Removing and disposing of mold-infested porous materials, like drywall and carpeting, may be necessary to remediate heavy mold growth.

Mold containment

Every mold damage scenario is different and requires a unique solution, but the general mold remediation process stays the same.

We use various containment procedures to prevent the spread of mold. We may use advanced containment procedures like negative air chambers to isolate the contaminated area with physical barriers and negative air pressure to keep the mold spores from spreading during the cleanup process. All fans and heating and cooling systems will be turned off to prevent the spread of mold.

Electrical fires

Most electrical fires are caused by faulty electrical outlets and old, outdated appliances. Other fires are started by faults in appliance cords, receptacles and switches. Never use an appliance with a worn or frayed cord which can send heat onto combustible surfaces like floors, curtains, and rugs that can start a fire.

Running cords under rugs is another cause of electrical fires. Removing the grounding plug from a cord so it can be used in a two-prong electrical outlet can also cause a fire. The reason appliances have the extra prong is so they can be only used in outlets that can handle the extra amount of electricity that these appliances draw.

Moisture Meter

This is a photo of one of our moisture meters. This is an essential instrument we use to detect moisture content in materials.

Moisture meters are used to measure the percentage of water in a given substance. This information can be used to determine if the material is ready for use, unexpectedly wet or dry, or otherwise in need of further inspection. Wood and paper products are very sensitive to their moisture content.

The reading on this meter of 99.9 is stating that this specific material is completely saturated.

Surfaces such as wood, drywall, and carpet pull water away from plain sight and into interiors of the structure.

Hoarding in San Leandro home

We received a call from an insurance agent regarding fire damage in this San Leandro home. We had no idea what we were walking into. Not only was there fire and soot damage but also an extreme case of hoarding. The fire department required the house to be boarded up claiming it was dangerous and unlivable. By listening to the family's needs and concerns, we created a plan that everyone agreed upon, which involved cleaning, sorting and disposing of any unwanted items. Once that was completed we were, then, able to clean up the fire and soot damage.

Wall Cavity Drying

This is a picture of our Inject Dry in an office building drying out the walls throughout the commercial area. The Inject dry Hardwood Floor Drying System is the latest and greatest hardwood dryer in the industry. It's used to dry high-risk areas of moisture under hardwood, marble, and tile that regular dehumidifiers just can't quite reach. By exchanging the air in a targeted area with negative pressure, the air movement becomes a vehicle for moisture. When caught in time, this can keep your expensive hardwood and engineered hardwood from warping.
